Regular Chemistry & Pre-AP Chemistry Make-up and Retake Policy

Make-up for Quizzes and Tests due to absence:

  • If you are making up a quiz or test due to an absence, the make up must be done during tutorials.
  • Failure to make up a quiz or test will result in a grade of zero for the missing quiz or test.
  • You will not take the same quiz or test as your classmates.
  • Your instructor reserves the right to excuse a quiz if that quiz is over the material taught the block before the unit test.
  • You must make up unit tests prior to the next unit test or the end of the grading period in which the test was originally taken, whichever is sooner.

Retaking Quizzes or Tests:

All Chemistry students will have the opportunity to complete remedial assessments for quizzes to obtain a higher score up to a grade of 70. However, to do so, the student must take responsibility and follow the steps outlined below.

  1. The original assessment with its grade will be signed by a parent or guardian.
  2. If the student received a grade of 60 for a quiz, the student must complete corrections including why wrong answers are wrong and why correct answers are correct.
  3. If the student received a grade below 60, the student must complete an assignment provided by the instructor, demonstrating mastery of the assessed material up to a grade of 70.
  4. The remedial assessment must be completed within 5 days of assignment, prior to the unit test for the assigned material, or prior to the end of the grading period, whichever occurs first.

All Chemistry students will have the opportunity to retake unit tests to obtain a higher score up to a grade of 70. However, to do so, the student must take responsibility and follow the steps outlined below.

  1. The student is expected to come in for tutorials over the material. The student will complete test corrections including why wrong answers are wrong and why correct answers are correct.
  2. The original assessment with its grade must be signed by a parent or guardian.
  3. Retakes of test will only be available for 5 calendar days following the return of the original assessment.
  4. The student must complete the retake assessment during tutorials.

RTI Tier I Considerations:

  • The score of the retake will be the recorded grade regardless if the score is higher or lower than the original score.
  • Students will only have one opportunity for remediating quizzes or tests.
